Kelp: Secret of the Korean umami

kelp 2A friend from the traditional town of Jeonju brought me a full bag of organic dried kelp from her hometown. Jeonju is a city in southwest Korea where Bibimbap (Korean signature dish, listed at number 40 on the World’s 50 most delicious foods readers’ poll compiled by CNN Travel in 2011) originated from.

Kelp gives umami flavor in cooking and is a natural super food loaded with amino acids, vitamins and minerals. In our August Bibimbap class, we will use kelp to prepare the rice!
